| ARMY COMMANDER INTERACTS WITH CHILDREN FROM LADAKH REGION ON THEIR RETURN FROM AGRA- DELHI TOUR | | |

Army Commander Northern Command, Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor, AVSM, SM, VSM and President AWWA Northern Command interacted yesterday with twenty eight children from the Army Goodwill Schools Batalik and Darchiks, on their return from an excursion to Delhi and Agra . The excursion was organized by the Army under Op-Sadbhavna. Children are worst affected by the Proxy War in J&K. In the early days of insurgency, the terrorists had targeted the liberal and social education infrastructure in the State by burning schools. It deprived many a children of education, their fundamental right. To obviate this anomaly and assist the civil administration in restoring the liberal and social framework of education, the Army took the initiative of setting up Army Goodwill Schools in the remote areas of the State. The standards being maintained in these schools are designed to put the children studying in these schools at par with the students in other parts of the country. Computer education has also been introduced in these schools to enable them to compete at the National level.
In addition to education, the Army also took initiative in grooming children to be good citizens of India and enhance their level of awareness. It is with this aim is mind, groups of children are sent regularly on educational tours to places of importance so that they can see the progress that the country has made and imbibe the values of social, liberal and democratic polity of the nation. It will help them to merge into the main stream of the nation with poise and confidence, carve a wonderful future for themselves and effectively contribute towards peace, prosperity and development. Army Commander enquired from the children if they had enjoyed the trip to which there was an instinctive and almost instantaneous positive response. He advised the children to work hard, with commitment and purpose to create a niche for themselves in the road to progress on which our country has embarked and also contribute towards the development and progress of the Region, State and the Nation. The children were also given a token gift by Mrs Kirti Kapoor, President AWWA, Northern Command.
