| Billiards Hall gets a new lease of life | | |
Early Times Report JAMMU, July 14: Remained closed for two years, for want of renovation, the Billiard Hall at MA Stadium here has got a new lease of life with J&K State Sports Council investing around Rs 15 lakh on its overhauling. Inaugurated in March 1995, the only facility for cue game in Jammu Province, Billiards Hall attracted the attention of the authorities concerned after 14 long years to initiate repair work. Otherwise scheduled to be opened for normal play by the Director Youth Services and Sports, Shafiq Ahmed Raina, who holds the additional charge of Secretary State Sports Council, today, the Billiards Hall now shall be inaugurated on a later date. “Earlier, we were informed by our seniors that the Billiards Hall, after renovation, shall be declared open by Secretary today. But, now we have been conveyed that there is change in the date,” Manager Indoor Complex, Satish Gupta told SAN. It has been reliably learnt that the Council changed the idea of getting the Hall opened through Secretary after the Government allotted Sports Ministry to R S Chib. Now, if sources are to be believed, the Billiards Hall will be inaugurated by the new Minister by the end of this week. “From roof top to flooring, table clothes to air conditioners, we have left nothing untouched. In fact, the condition of the Hall was so deteriorated that it took us a long time to give it a new look,” contractor, Ajay Sharma told SAN. Game has suffered during the last two years of renovation work. It resulted into the J&K Billiards and Snooker Association has not been able to conduct its domestic activities for two sporting seasons. Now, with repair work over and Hall ready for normal play, there is hope that the activities would start any time. “Soon after the Hall is opened, the admission process shall start. On an average around 40 boys get admission in cue game annually. Besides the monthly fee, we charge Rs 2,000 as annual charges from those practice at Billiards Hall,” informed the Manager Indoor Complex.
