| IGP made incharge in Chopra family murder | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, JULY 14: Three years after barbaric murder of leading Jammu business tycoon RB Chopra and his family members, the Additional Advocate General SC Gupta today informed the High Court that a New Supervisory officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police has been made Incharge of the case, who would require some time to report about the steps he intends to take in the case.
Justice JP Singh of J&K High Court Jammu Wing adjourned the case at the request of AAG and directed Registry to list case in the second week of August 2009. Advocates DS Thakur and Pranav Kohli appeared for the petitioners Puneet Chopra.
According to the status report filed by the SIT on November 24, 2008 reveals that on that night around Rupees 55 lacs should have been in the house as per the day book maintained and kept at the house but only around Rs 3 lacs could be traced. Lot of gold jewellary was lying intact inside the pooja room. The alto car taken from the house was recovered from Mohalla Kaleeth on September 19, 2007. The weapon used the in crime are generally used by the Pardhi tribe of MP. SIT during the investigation consulted crime journals, literature available on the internet prepared by the police of other state. Dossier published by Delhi police on the functioning of Bawaria and Pradhi tribes which was of immense help in understanding the MO of these tribes. The dossier was prepared by Delhi police in the wake of a series of similar incidents in the 1990. This dossier narrowed down the search for the mystery weapon which was found used in the murder of Chopra’s family. It has been explicitly mentioned in the dossier that Pradhi tribes based in Goona uses one such weapon which has a twin teethed end.
On January 6, 2007 SIT laid an ambush between village Khejra and Goona and was able to nab two suspect of Gang namely Mahesh and Rooshi both sons of Premda, meanwhile one Pradhi namely Shanker informed the police that he had seen a gang of dreaded Pradhi criminals in Jammu on the very day of incident. The suspects were brought to Jammu and put to thorough investigation but they proved hard not to crack, since the case was a complicated one, SIT resorted to modern methods of scientific investigation, the suspects were put to polygraphy, brain mapping and narco analysis test conducted at FSL Banglore as a result they broke after multiple rounds of tests and revealed that a part of 8 members including Sangram, KIran, Roshi, Mahes sons of Premda Pradhi, Siknader s/o Bali Chand, Narinder s/o Shri Krishan, Nanju s/o Chatter, Vicky s/o Himmat Singh Pradhi all belonging to Pradhi tribe and all resident of village Khejrachak Dist Goona MP had committed this gruesome act and were engaged by local criminal namely Bhawani Singh s/o Balia Pradhi r/o Katra for this heinous crime who also showed the house of Mr. Chopra to this party. During the intervening night of 17/18 September, 2006 all he above mentioned accused with the involvement of Chopra’s driver Jagan Nath entered in the house and killed whole family taking away Rs 50/55 lacs and some diamonds. When driver Jagan Nath demanded his share, he too was killed.
In the Narcotic test of one of the accused a sensation disclosure was made that five members of Single family that Rs 50 lacs and diamonds was distributed among the members of the gang who allegedly committed the murder of RB Chopra’s Family.
High Court on February 15, 2008 directed the police to investigate matter but the restrained from submitting challan in the Court till further order.
