| LS adjourned till 1130 hrs over demand for discussion on drought | | | Agencies New Delhi, Jul 15: The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 1130 hrs this morning amid uproarious scenes by Opposition members who demanded a discussion on the prevailing drought conditions in most parts of the country. Repeated pleas by Speaker Meira Kumar failed to pacify the Opposition members who were on their feet demanding immediate discussion on 'drought conditions'. Members, cutting across party lines, said the country was under one of the worst drought spells and people were facing severe water and food shortage. ''Cattle were dying for want of fodder,'' said Mulayam Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal stood to inform Members that an entire day, tomorrow, had been fixed for discussion on 'demands for grants for agriculture'. He said Members could easily raise the issue then. When Members led by Sharad Yadav of the JD(U), Mulayam Singh Yadav and Basudeb Acharia (CPI-M), continued to press with their demand shouting slogans -- ''kisan virodhi sarkar, nahi chalegi, nahi chalegi'' (anti-farmer government will not work) -- the Speaker even granted them permission to raise the issue during Zero Hour. The Members did not heed to her request, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House.
