7/15/2009 11:38:15 PM

SALMAN NIZAMI
JAMMU JULY 15: Missing of a newly born baby from the Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at SMGS hospital Jammu has created doubts among the people that under tight security how baby was taken away.
As per the CCTV footage is concerned it shows that two women coming down from an auto rickshaw entered labour room, but the CCTV video of the labour rooms was unable to show the operation done inside the room. The CCTV placed outside the hospital building shows the same womens coming out from the labour room have something hidden in their arms and left away in the same auto rickshaw already waiting for them, which indicates kidnappers were aware of the location of the camera.
As per sources in the hospital, no body is allowed to enter the labour room and kidnapping chances of baby is bleak. He said kidnapping of the baby may be well planned conspiracy between kidnapper and member of the staff as security persons are instructed not to allow even attendants without any reason, and taking away of newly born child does not arise until discharge of the patient.
However intense pressure has been built on the police as well as hospital authorities by the realtivies of Rajini Bala, wife of Sunil Sharma who are the parents of the missing boy.
The Childs parents said “We will not budge from here till the police find our child intense parents said. They also threatened to commit sucide in front of the hospital if the police failed to find the new born son. SP ( North) Jammu Randeep kumar said police teams have raided many nursing homes in the city, as the child was not well when he went missing. He said the hospital administration is not helping in the investigations. They start protesting the minute police question anyone from the staff, he said.” There is slackness on the part of the hospital authorities.
According to the Deputy Medical superintendent Satish Kumar said the hospital was under-staffed and congested. “Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), from where the infant went missing, has a capacity of 10 patients only, but even today there were 35 patients. At the time of incident there were 37 patients in the NICU while there were only three nurses to attend them,” he said. “The 69-year-old hospital, which is the only government-run specialised gynaecology and paediatrics hospital in the region, houses 700 patients besides catering to more than 1,000 outdoor patients on regular basis he said.
He said as per health norms set by AIIMS, there should be one nurse manning each bed in the ICU and CCU, but in our hospital only three nurses are taking care of entire ward. “The paramedical staff and senior doctors have been performing their for extra hours in a state of chaos and confusion,” he said.” At the time when incident happened, it was change of shift,” he said. “On the basis of prima-facie evidence, the hospital administration has placed three nurses and an orderly under suspension besides constituting an inquiry into the entire episode. The inquiry report would be submitted tomorrow,” he said.
