| Jealous friend killed student Asrar over Internet affair with Delhi girl | | Forces heave a sigh of relief as Police solves Maisuma murder | |
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Jul 15: It appears to be the script for a typical Bollywood fiction but has dramatically surfaced as an incredible fact that the 20-year-old uptown Maisuma student, Asrar Mushtaq Dar, had been done to death by none other than his bosom friend who had become jealous over former’s Internet liaison with his Delhi-based girlfriend. Police and security forces, who remained at the receiving end of accusations and stone-pelting for several days over “kidnapping-cum-murder” of the Kashmiri student, have understandably heaved a sigh of relief over the breakthrough achieved by Srinagar district Police. Uptown Srinagar had turned tense immediately after an under-graduation student of Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Asrar Mushtaq, had gone missing in hours of his leaving for Karan Nagar area in the evening on July 3rd last. Even as his family members maintained that Police had been “lackadaisical” in conducting a search, several others had violently leveled allegations that Police or security forces had “kidnapped and brutally murdered” the young student. With calls for “continuous shutdown” pouring in from different quarters, Police and CRPF had remained at the receiving end of accusations and stone-pelting---including a grenade attack that left six personnel and equal number of civilians wounded---for several days. The shutdown had a substantial impact all over the Valley. Asrar’s brutally mutilated dead body had been spotted and recovered from Malkhah on July 7th. On the last day of his key posting in this capital city, SSP Srinagar, Syed Ahfadul Mujtaba, revealed at a crowded news conference this afternoon that Police had succeeded in solving Asrar Mushtaq’s murder in less than a week of the recovery of dead body. Quoting the findings of an 11-day-long investigation, SSP said that Asrar had left for Karan Nagar area to deliver his pen drive on a friend in the evening on July 3rd. He had been last spotted with his friend, Imran Aslam Baba S/o Mohammad Aslam Baba R/o Green Avenue, Illahibagh (Soura). He said that Police traced the call records of both, Asrar and Aslam, who had received last signals on their mobile phones from the towers located in Illahibagh area on the July 3rd evening. Police also launched a search for the motorcycle which had been used by Asrar’s friends for carrying him from Karan Nagar to Illahibagh. Police initially filed a missing report on the statement of family members and residents but subsequently turned it into case FIR NO: 54/2009 under section 302 RPC (murder). Even as Police failed to get a clue till Asrar’s body was found at Malkhah on July 7th, Police intensified its investigation under the supervision of SDPO Kothibagh. After identifying two of Asrar’s friends as suspects on the basis of call records and other evidences, Police took into custody Imran Aslam Baba and Asim Ali Vaida S/o Ali Mohammad Vaida R/o Central Avenue Illahibagh. During the course of sustained interrogation, Imran Aslam made sensational disclosures and revealed that he had hatched up a plot with another friend and neighbour, Aasim Ali vaida, to eliminate his friend Asrar. He, according to SSP, revealed that he and Aasim had taken Asrar to the former’s house in Illahibagh where they overpowered him and struck his head repeatedly with an iron rod used in a physical exercise at gymnasium.
