| BJP warns against shifting Centarl University to Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JULY 16 : Making common cause with the agitating students in Jammu province, BJP State President Ashok Khajuria today warned the authorities in the state that any move on their part to set up Central University in Kashmir would create in Jammu the 2008 like situation and disturb the already rather fragile political situation in the state. "The land for the said University has already been identified in the Samba district and, hence, the proposed University must be set up in the Samba district", said Ashok Khajuria while addressing a press conference here today. He however underlined, “the party vehemently opposes the idea of setting up two campuses of the University, one at Jammu and the other in Kashmir.. Urging all the Jammu-based legislators, including members of the Legislative Council, ministers and Members of Parliament that it is imperative on their part to rise above all considerations so that the Central University is established in the Jammu province, Ashok Khajuria said that the unity among the representatives of Jammu province is the need of the hour. He said it is strange that while all the Kashmir-based legislators, including ministers have been working in tandem and promoting the cause of the constituency they are representing, those belonging to Jammu have failed to come up to the expectations of their constituencies in Jammu. Khajuria assured all the Jammu province based legislators of his party’s unstinted support for the Jammu cause and held out a categorical statement that the BJP will not take rest till the Central University is established in this province, which has already suffered from gross discrimination and political neglect. He reminded the Jammu-based MPs and legislators that if the people of Jammu could force the valley-centric authorities to establish Mata Vaishno Devi University and Agriculture University in Jammu in 1998 and make the authorities restore the Baltal land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board in 2008, they are sure to agitate in the manner that would certainly force the anti-Jammu elements in Kashmir not to tinker with the original decision regarding the establishment of the Central University in Jammu province. Ashok Khajuria said it would be only appropriate if the Jammu-based political leaders of all shades of opinion forget all the differences and fight as cohesive group so that the authorities are prevented from causing harm to the Jammu province. BJP State Spokesperson Sh. Ramesh Arora (Adv.) was also present in the press conference.
