Sports Council keeps `contractual coaches’ away
Seven NIS qualified coaches approach CM for personal intervention

JAMMU, July 16: At least seven NIS (National Institute of Sports) qualified individuals have approached the president of J&K State Sports Council, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah seeking his personal intervention in a matter related to their future.
Otherwise, imparting coaching in different disciplines at various centers of the Sports Council as contractual coaches since March 2005, these coaches, all of a sudden, have been told `verbally’ to stay away from their respective coaching centers.
In a representation to the constitutional head of the autonomous sports body of the state, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, these coaches of seven different disciplines said, “We have been verbally ordered by Sports Officer (Jammu), Arun Kumar Sharma to stop our regular attendance in his office from July three onwards.”
The letter mentioned: “When inquired about such a harsh decision, we were told that he (Sports Officer) has been instructed by the Administrative Officer (AO) of the Sports Council, Afzal Malik to immediately stop the regular attendance of coaches as also entries in the monthly work diaries despite the fact that we were attending our coaching classes regularly.
Furthermore, these Diploma holders from the prestigious institution—National Institute of Sports—have been deprived of their dues by the Sports Council for the last over one year. “Our last pay was released in April 2008 and our salaries since than has not been released yet by the State Sports Council fully knowing that we are taking our coaching classes regularly,” the letter informed the Chief Minister.
Seeking personal intervention of the Chief Minister, the letter is accompanied by the appointment letters, attendance sheets and newspaper cuttings of these coaches posed in Jammu Province.
Addressed to the Chief Minister, the joint representation is signed by coaches, Onkar Singh (Volleyball), Kushey Kumar (Football), Shakti Gupta (Judo), Jagjit Singh (Hockey), Dalvinder Singh (Hockey), Vikas Magotra (Swimming) and Rachna Jamwal (Fencing).
