| Congress says no move to replace Soz as PCC chief | | Dissident leaders await audience with Sonia | |
Early Times Report Jammu, July 16: Even as the angry Congress dissidents camping in New Delhi with bundles of grievances and complaints are awaiting an appointment with the party president Sonia Gandhi, the All India Congress Committee to put the rumours of organizational change in Jammu and Kashmir to rest. Congress has dismissed reports about removal of Saifuddin Soz as Jammu and Kashmir unit president and his appointment as Governor of some State. Soz, who was Water Resources Minister in the previous UPA Government and was left out in the new council of ministers, is likely to be given some important political assignment that will be equivalent to a Cabinet rank post. "There is no move to remove him as PCC President," a senior AICC leader said while commenting on reports that Soz would be replaced by Chowdhry Mohammad Aslam who has been sulking over his omission from the state Council of Ministers. The AICC leader also rubbished media reports which suggested that Soz would be appointed as Governor of some State. The reports had emanated amid shadow war between Soz and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, that has been reflected in the veiled attacks by them at each other through the media. The Congress High Command is engaging the sulking senior leader Choudhary Mohammad Aslam has in consultations after resigned as CLP leader and attacked Soz and Prithviraj Chavan, AICC in-charge of the party affairs of the State. Aslam has also rejected the party’s offer of being made the Chairman of Gujjar Board. The party High Command feels that the offer of Chairman of Gujjar Board was the maximum that could be given to him as the party wants to give chance to young leaders in the ministry. Meanwhile, the state Congress leaders including Mohammad Sharief Niaz and Abdul Majid Wani are camping in New Delhi to take up their matter with the party high command. There are at least a dozen senior Congress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir camping in New Delhi following internal strife in the party after ministry expansion but Choudhary Mohammad Asla, Niaz and Wani have specific complaints. These leaders were yet to get an audience with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
