| Congress dissidents meet Sonia Gandhi, showcase Aslam as humiliation symbol | | | Early Times Report Jammu July 17: Realising the fact getting a Cabinet berth may not be a reality in near future, around half dozen sulking Congress leaders, presently camping in New Delhi, have now made senior party leader Choudhary Mohammad Aslam as a rallying point to settle down their scores with top leaders. At least a dozen senior Congress leaders, including half a dozen dissidents disappointed on their exclusion from the Cabinet, today changed their strategy and presented, before senior party leaders in Delhi, the case of Choudhary Aslam as a symbol of humiliation in the recent cabinet expansion. One of the Congress legislators camping in New Delhi told Early Times over phone, “we are young and have a long way to go, we want justice for our senior leader Choudhary Aslam”. A delegation of several Congress leaders including MLA Doda Abdul Majid Wani, MLC President JKPYC Mohammad Amin Bhat, President DCC Baramula Mir Mushtaq, Former MLA Haji Rashid and Secy JKPCC S S Channi today met the Congress President Sonia Gandhi at New Delhi. Sonia Gandhi was briefed about the recent Congress Party affairs in J&K as well as the dissatisfaction among workers and the senior leader. The leaders informed Sonia that in Doda and Ramban districts, where the Congress Party performed its best winning all the assembly seats, not even single MLA has been inducted into the state cabinet. People from militancy affected & backward hilly Doda and Ramban districts, being most neglected since 1947 in J&K, required better treatment with Cabinet representation in the state cabinet”. Those who are already in New Delhi include former deputy chief minister Mangat Ram Sharma, Gulchain Singh Charak, and Waqar Rasool Banihali. Choudhary Muhammad Aslam, Abdul Gani Vakil, and Muhammad Sharif Niaz are already camping in Delhi for past some days. A number of Congress leaders while speaking openly against a senior leader asserted their support to Gujjar leader, Choudhary Muhammad Aslam, who was not included in the cabinet. Aslam, as a mark of protest, had also declined to accept the post of the chairman of Gujjar and Bakerwal Board with cabinet rank.” Many members now want to see Aslam at the helm of affairs and want him to be the Pradesh Congress Committee president,” a party member said.
