| Pawan Bansal in Srinagar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JULY 18 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation& Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today had a review meeting with the Union Minister for Water Resources Development, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal who is on 2-day visit to the State. The meeting discussed threadbare the measures taken in irrigation & Flood Control sectors in J&K State and the projects under execution. Taj gave historical background of 1902 flood which had sub-merged the whole Valley and demanded clearance of projects and additional funds for completion of irrigation & Flood Control projects, adding the Valley is more vulnerable to floods than earlier times. The Minister also gave a brief resume of ongoing projects and said that 522 minor irrigation schemes are under execution at an estimated cost of Rs 938 crore, on which Rs 220 crore have been spent upto March last besides 12 major irrigation schemes are coming up at a cost of Rs 632 crore with ultimate potential to irrigate 118334 hectors of land. Among others who attended the meeting were Principal Secretary PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. A. K. Angurana, Director Planning PHE & Chief Engineers of various disciplines.
