| Contractual medicos to meet shortfall: Chib | | | Early Times Report Jammu July 18: Asserting to provide better medical facilities to the people of J&K, the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Technical and Medical Education R S Chib on Saturday announced that Govt will soon appoint doctors and paramedical staff on contractual basis. Addressing a press conference organized at SMGS Hospital, the minister R S Chib said “The Hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir having shortage of staff which is a limiting factor behind providing better and adequate medical care to the people, now to meet the shortage of staff Govt would soon start recruitment of doctors and paramedical professionals so people are getting better medical care”. “The shortage of doctors and paramedical staff is a major hurdle which resulted into huge burden on existing doctors and paramedical professionals and general public became sufferers out of this”, he said and announcing, ‘Contractual appointments being a faster process will soon help hospitals reduce burden on the staff’. He stressed upon the officers to work in a coordinated way so that the necessary steps are taken to improve patient care. He said to have first hand information about the problems at the ground level he will be visiting the medical college hospitals soon. Asking people to give at least two months time to show results, the newly inducted minister said, ‘the things can’t be changed overnight I request people to give me two months’. Commenting on incident of missing baby from SMGS Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit which was recovered yesterday, the minister lauded Hospital and Police particularly SSP Jammu Manohar Singh in tracing out the stolen baby within a week. Saying that a lot of giving created resulted into humiliation of staff members, Chib ruled out any involvement of Hospital staff in the incident but however admitted there were some shortcomings in professional conduct of hospital staff which contributed in outsider women managing to steal the baby from the NICU. “When I was informed about this incident and then spoke to Chief Minister who took keen interest and shouldered the responsibility to SSP Jammu Manohar Singh who successfully resolved the case and recovered baby”, Chib informed. The Minister said that desire for having a male child had forced a mother of two girls steal the day-old baby from the hospital with the help of her sister. ‘Both have been arrested by police while the baby has been handed over his parents, who were in trauma since the child theft,’ Chib said. ‘Hospital administration will now ensure that now staff member will leave the duty station without handing over charge to the staff in the next shift’, he said. The Minister also recommended the name of SSP Jammu Manohar Singh for an award for swiftly cracking the case besides reward from Govt to auto-rickshaw driver, who assisted police. The driver was given a cash award of Rs 5,000 by the hospital administration.
