| Orientation Program concludes in GDC Kathua | | | Early Times Report Kathua, July 18: One month Orientation Program in Govt. Degree College Kathua concluded with the holding of valedictory function and distribution of certificate, where participant’s mostly rural women were given orientation with regard to the Phulkari and bamboo works. Prof. A.K. Malhotra, principal of the collage was the chief guest on this occasion. The function was also graced by the faculty members, NGOs and officers of the Social Welfare and Handicrafts Departments, apart from the participants. The program was organized by the Women’s Study Centre of Govt Degree College Kathua with the collaboration of the Department of Handicrafts on the topic, “skill orientation and self employment schemes for rural women”. Dr. Sujata Salthia coordinator of the centre welcomed the guests and presented resume of the workshop activities. Dr. A.K. Malhotra in his address complimented the efforts of the organizers and highlighted the need of holding such orientation programs so that the rural women can get the benefit of government schemes with regard to self employment. He emphasized that the women folk should come forward to take benefit of the schemes of the Handicrafts and social Welfare Departments for self employment and economic support. He advised the organizers to arrange certificate courses in crafts with the collaboration of Govt agencies for the rural women. Participants were identified by the local NGOs such as Saviour of Innocent Labour, Mahila Mandal Badala, Mahila Adhikar Sangathan Kathua and Education Awareness Organization, Priti Chak. Programme was anchored by Ms. Samriti Singh, Project Officer of the Women’s Study Centre.
