| Cellphones banned in schools | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JULY 18: Government has decided to ban use of mobile phones in government educational institutions to prevent interference in the teaching learning activities. The ban will be strictly imposed henceforth and stern action taken against violators. This was stated by Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed while speaking at Bider Kokernag about 60 kms from here, while airing his views in a community Mobilization Programme for the promotion of Education under National Programme for Education of girls at Elementary L:evel (NPEGEL) in Breng. Underscoring importance of girl education in the contemporary world, Mr. Syed said that for holistic development of society the women folk has to be brought at par with men. “How can we talk of equality of status when more than half our women are illiterate”, Perzada asked. He said that we lag behind the advanced countries as the status of women is related to nations development making it imperative to cover all sections of societies particularly women. He also stressed for adopting a curriculum of education which would also lay thrust on the moral aspects. Peerzada also deliberated on various initiatives being taken by the government for expansion and upgradation of infrastructure across the valley. Peerzada said that as many as 4014 Primary schools have been opened while as 4353 Centres were upgraded to Primary level. He further said that around 5000 Primary School, were upgraded to Middle level.
