| Resolving peoples’ problems, my priority: Bhalla | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JULY 19 –Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla today laid the foundation stone of Community Hall to be constructed by Jammu Municipal Corporation near Graveyard, Malik Market, Channi Rama. Rs. 40 lakh will be the expenditure on the first phase of the project and the second installment will be released after the completion of the first phase. Mr. Bhalla also inaugurated the blacktopping work of lanes in Channi Rama, Mandir Wali gali, Bandhu Rakh and Sanjay Nagar. Addressing a public rally on the occasion, the Minister called himself as a public servant whose doors are open round-the clock for the people. He said that if any person has any problem, he can approach him directly, adding that governance at the doorstep is the new mantra of running government in the State. Mr. Bhalla said that coalition government is committed to address the basic problems of people like drinking water, power, essential supplies, health, roads etc for which it has taken up some bold initiatives also. To augment the power supply to Channi Rama and adjoining areas, he directed the PDD officers to supply the power to these areas from Bhatindi Sub-Station rather than Sainik Colony station. He said that already the government has laid down the action plan for the next five and half years and is pursuing it vigorously for taking the state to the path of progress and prosperity. Recalling his efforts to upgrade the lanes and drains of his constituency as MLA, Mr. Bhalla said that after getting cabinet berth, his commitment to building Gandhinagar constituency as the model constituency has doubled. He announced that a committee would be set up to expedite the cases of revenue land pending for many years. He said, “ I want that people would not have to wait for years to get there cases regarding state land and forest land, pending before revenue department settled. We would come out with a mechanism to shorten the procedural delays so that justice can take place with the poor and deserving people of the State.” Emphasizing the need to extend green patches throughout the State, Mr. Bhalla asked the officers to carry out extensive plantation drive along the National highway. He said that the City of Temples is thronged by lakhs of tourists as it is an important halt for Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, adding that the green patches and landscaping along the roads must be undertaken on priority to enhance the beauty of this historical city. The Minister said that equal growth of all the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, particularly the rural and far-flung areas of the State is being given priority by the present coalition government. Government has recently announced Rs. 60 lakhs for development of roads in both the capital cities, he said and added that infrastructure development works concerning bijli, pani and sadak, for which the people had given the present government mandate, are being taken up in all the three regions equitably. Earlier, several deputations from different areas of Gandhinagar constituency met the Minister and apprised him of their demands, including upgradation of lanes and drains, reduction in the amount to be paid under Roshni scheme for Revenue and JDA land, augmentation of power supply, construction of fly-over, concrete slabs to cover the nallahs, regularization of colonies etc. They also thanked UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for giving cabinet berth to Mr. Raman Bhalla, hailing him for the services rendered as an MLA for the development of the constituency. The Minister also took an extensive tour of Gandhinagar constituency and heard the problems of the people. He gave on-the-spot instructions to the officers to resolve the grievances of the people. Corporators of different wards, Sarpanches and Panches also accompanied the Minister.
