| Newlywed woman, another drown in Chenab | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 19: At least two women of a family were drowned in river Chenab near Baba Sunder Singh Gurdwara at Akhnoor, where the duo had gone to pay obeisance, Sunday afternoon. Reports reaching here revealed that one of the woman slipped into Chenab, while another attempted to save her life. However, both of them were washed away by the fast current of the river. They have been identified as Dalit Kour wife of Swaran Singh and Kulbir Kour wife of Rashpal Singh both residents of Daskal Akhnoor. Police sources said that the duo, on their way back home after paying obeisance at Baba Sunder Singh Gurdwara., went to the bank of Chenab, where Daljit slipped into river. On seeing her sister-in-law in danger, Kulbir also jumped in, sources quoting eyewitnesses said adding, both of them were however carried away by the mighty Chenab. On receiving information, police reached the spot and start rescue operation but the bodies could not be traced till late this evening. This is third such incident in last one month at Akhnoor. Earlier one girl Mirino Bano and a youth Devanchoo Gupta were drowned in the river at the same spot and their bodies were yet to be recovered. Police has registered a case in this regard and taken up the investigations.
