9/27/2006 8:02:08 PM

Udhampur | September 27

General Officer Commanding( GOC)16 Corps, Northern Command Lt. General Deepak Kapoor has refuted the claims of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf about the Kargil war, and has pointed out that the world knows who was the winner in the conflict.

Gen. Kapoor was interacting with mediapersons at a function here last evening.

When asked about General Musharraf's controversial book 'In the Line of Fire' and his claim that his country was victorious in the Kargil conflict in 1999 ,he quipped,'' The world knows that Indian army had thrown the Pakistani troops out of Kargil. If Gen Musharraf sees defeat as his victory, it is up to him , how he looks at the outcome,''he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Kargil falls under the jurisdiction of the Northern Command.

Gen. Kapoor further revealed that it is better late than never that Pakistan has admitted its involvement in Kargil. On being asked about the infiltration, Gen Kapoor stated that infiltration has not stopped and still continuing. Though it is reduced but it is still there , he asserted.

Army commander said that fencing at the border may prove an obstacle but it can't be a foolproof system to stop infiltration.

Due to natural calamities, it gets destroyed and taking advantage of this ultras infiltrate to this side of the border.

On the presence of the al-Qaeda ,he said, if it is present,''we are not worried and ready to deal with it effectively. So far we have not come across any of the al-Qaeda operatives in the state ,'' he added. ''We are however, taking their threat very seriously and planning strategies accordingly,''he aded.

About the forcible recruitment of children by the terror outfits to expand their activities in the state , Gen. Kapoor said it would be big challenge for the security forces.
