| EP tenants demand proprietary rights | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 20: Evacuees property (EP) tenants welfare society of Jammu province has demanded conferring of proprietary rights to the allottees of evacuee property houses in respect of houses allotted to them, on which they have been paying rent since long time and which they have been maintaining incurring heavy costs. In a memorandum submitted to the J&K minister for revenue and relief Raman Bhalla here today and demanded necessary amendment in J&K evacuee property / act, to provide proprietary rights to the tenants of evacuee property on the houses where they have been lying for several decades. Listing their grievances the deputation of the association comprising Krishan Lal Gupta Banarsi Dal Angral, Suraj Prakash Sharma, Mian Nazir Ahmed, Mohd Sharief, Master Mansa Ram and Rattan Sawhney, told the minister that the EP department has been unnecessarily harassing the tenants, forcing them to enhance the rent rates every now and them and demanding. The association demanded that no premium should be charged in case of transfer of tenancy to the legal heir of the late tenant and this transfer should be made automatically through simple procedure, to avoid harassment and exploitation of the legal heir of the late tenant. The memorandum also mentioned about the consensus arrived at in the past in a meeting chaired by then revenue minister and attended by the financial commissioner (revenue), custodian general and custodian EP Jammu and representatives of the EP tenants welfare society. The allottees of evacuee property be granted 40 years lease without enhancement of any rent in this regard it was agreed that the demand by the association for withdrawal of SRO 215 which provides for periodical enhancement of the rent, will be considered favourably and the rent revision will be made during the lease period of 40 years.
