Furthering cause of industrial promotion top agenda: Dr. Manohar

Jammu, July 20: Chamber of Commerce & Industry today felicitated Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Minister of State for Cooperative, Printing & Stationery and Elections (Independent Charge), Finance, Planning, Industries & Commerce, Higher Education, Science & Technology and information technology, on his arrival at Chamber House. Ram Sahai, Presented a memorandum to him in which points regarding promotion of industry and concerning finance department were highlighted. It was pointed out that the original package of incentives should be restored to the industrial sector and package as provided to the North Eastern States in the year 2007 should be extended to J and K state also. It is emphasized that special package should be provided to industry of Rural and Backward areas, the committee for land allotment to industry to be revived, exemption of work contracts from service tax, abolition of negative list, taking the white goods industry and digital photo labs out of negative list, the final authority of declaring any activity as industry should rest with the department of industry only. The entry tax on raw material required for industry should be exempted, central government departments and defence forces located in the state should be persuaded to buy from local units and they should adhere to price preference policy of the government. The VAT rates parity between our state and neighbouring state is resulting the shifting of business from our state, this should be taken up by the government at the earliest. The threshold limit and TOT limit to be enhanced to 20 lacs and 40 lacs respectively. There should be difference in the treatment between registered and unregistered dealers and government should finalize the trade policy as has been discussed in many high level meetings. The meeting was followed by interactive session in which Sh. T.S.Reen, Sh. Vikrant Kuthiala, Sh. Pawan Shastri, Sh. Vikram Randhawa, Sh. Rajendra Motial, participated. The speakers also expressed resentment over the news of shifting Central University from Jammu or opening of two centers each at Jammu and Srinagar.
Dr. Manohar Lal while reacting to the demands highly appreciated the points raised in the memorandum and assured that he will work relentlessly to pursue the same for their logical conclusion. He also expressed his solidarity with the people and promised that he will deliver the thinks in most transparent and positive way. He also desired that he will be in constant touch with chamber and industrial representatives for furthering the cause of industrial promotion with their cooperation.
