Jammu, July 20: These spurious spices were headed straight to your plate via the kitchen but Police have successfully pre-empted such an attempt.
After series of seizures of adulterated desi ghee from different places in and around Jammu, the Police achieved a major success in busting a spurious spice making racket. Gangyal police have seized tones of adulterated spices in a raid conducted in the Gangyal Industrial Complex here today.
Gangyal police on specific information conducted raid in the two factories and seized tones of adulterated spices including chilies powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder and red and yellow colours , sample of chemicals used for the purpose have been sent to forensic lab for verification, sources said.
The owner of the duo factories identified as Kailash Agarwal son of Tilak Raj Agarwal resident of Bakshi Nagar is absconding but police have arrested three employees from the factories. Gangyal police led by SHO Sunil Singh Jasrotia under the supervision of SSP Jammu Manohar Singh and newly posted SP South Mumtaz, on specific information conducted raid in the two factories in Gangyal Industrial Complex namely Tilak Industries and Radika Food Products and seized tones of adulterated spices including 15 quintal chilies powders, 17 quintal 40 kg turmeric powder,230 kg coriander powder, 550 kg low quality rice and 60 kg red and yellow colours.
Police have also arrested three employees who during questioning informed that they mixed colour with chillies powder and yellow colour with turmeric powder and in order to curb the smell of colours they used some chemicals,samples of which have been sent to forensic lab. The adulterated spices are sold in the market with fine packing. Pertinent to mention here that barely three days ago police seized four trucks adulterated desi ghee from Domana area. The owner of the factories are absconding and manhunt has been launched to arrest him. While as Police have registered a case under section 3/7 EC Act,420,272 RPC in this connection.
