| With Rs 6500 Cr Plan plea, CM meets PM | | Omar holds first one-to-one meeting with Sonia since Jan | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 20: With a Rs 6500 Crore plan demand and plea of extending the PM Reconstruction Plan till the end of Eleventh Five Year Plan, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.
Omar Abdullah also called on the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and discussed with her matters pertaining to coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir. Significantly, this comes as first formal and one-to-one meeting of Omar with Sonia Gandhi since formation of NC-Congress ruling alliance in state.
According to an official spokesman, during meeting between Chief Minister and the Prime Minister the annual plan 2009-10 for an amount of Rs. 6500 crores was discussed threadbare with its different components and how this outlay will help in achieving the developmental objective of the State. The other issues discussed during the meeting was extension of Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan till the end of the 11th Five Year Plan.
The Chief Minister laid strong emphasis, during the meeting, that the funding pattern of all the Centrally Sponsored Schemes should be of the ratio of 90:10 on an uniform basis. The issue relating to the four lanning of the National Highway, which has direct relation for improving the economy of different regions of the State was discussed.
In order to meet the expenditure on account of implementation of Sixth Pay Commission recommendation, the Chief Minister, requested the Prime Minister for release of interim relief to meet the requirements on this count.
Another issue which was discussed in detail with the Prime Minister was continuation of Power Reform Grant to the State Govt. for the next five years.
The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh assured the Chief Minister of his full support in making J&K a model State with all the financial and logistic support from Government of India.
Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah today called on UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi here and discussed with her various matters relating to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and functioning of the coalition government. The meeting last over half an hour during which the two leaders reiterated the determination to strengthen the coalition in the State between the two parties on all levels in the larger interest of the people and development of the State.
