| 12 security personnel among 14 injured in grenade blast | | | Srinagar, Sept 27: Twelve security personnel were among 14 people injured in a grenade explosion triggered by militants at Badshah Chowk in the heart of the city on Sept 27.
Militants hurled the grenade towards a police party at Badshah Chowk around 1550 hours causing splinter injuries to ten cops and two CRPF personnel, official sources said.
They said two civilians passing through the area were also injured in the blast.
Strong contingent of police was deployed in the area since early today to maintain law and order in the wake of massive protest demonstrations against the death sentence of Mohammad Afzal in connection with parliament attack case and subsequent clashes between protestors and cops.
The CRPF personnel posted in nearby Akhara building, the abode of holy mace of Lord Shiva, were assisting the police in restoring order when the grenade attack took place, the sources said.
All the injured were shifted to hospital where the condition of four of them, including a civilian, was stated to be serious, the sources said adding the area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants involved in the attack.
