| KVIB to set up 1903 IGUs under PMEGP in Jammu and Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 21 : Jammu and Kashmir Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) is spending Rupees 53.15 crore to set up 1903 Income Generating Units (IGUs) under Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)in the state. This was revealed in the 96th Board of Directors meeting of KVIB held here under the Chairmanship of Minister for Industries and Commerce Surjit Singh Salathia, an official spokesman said here today. He said the KVIB has envisaged to set up 1903 income generating units involving a bank loan of Rs 53.15 crore with margin money of Rs 18.60 crore under PMEGP during the current financial year. These units would provide employment to 11,184 people. Addressing the meeting, Mr Slathia called for establishing viable and cost effective income generating units for creating employment opportunities for the youths of the state. He called upon the unemployed educated youths to take up entrepreneurship in a big way for improving the economic profile of the state. Every effort would be made to encourage them by providing technical know-how and financial assistance, he said. Appreciating the working of the board, the minister said the KVIB has emerged as the nerve centre for micro industrialisation and employment generation in rural areas. He stressed upon the need for creating awareness about the schemes being implemented by the KVIB in far-flung and remote areas of the state. Mr Slathia asked the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), KVIB, to reach out to the weaker and underprivileged sections of the society, addeing that the KVIB must vigorously follow the cluster development. During the meeting, Secretary, KVIB, Dr A Rashid, said the board organised 24 training courses of three months duration and imparted training to 609 beneficiaries under various crafts with an expenditure of Rs 4 lakh. He said 1526 beneficiaries were also imparted Entrepreneurship Development training for successful establishment of units under PMEGP. He said four cluster development programmes have been started in the state under SFURTI scheme. A total of 109 artisan worksheds stand has been sanctioned by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission for the artisans living below poverty line, he added.
