| Army organizes Equine Medicine and Surgery course for SKAUST Interns | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, JULY 21 :- A capsule course on “Equine Medicine and Surgery” was conducted under the aegis of HQ 71 Sub Area by 3 Adv Fd Vet Hospital as an OP SADBHAVNA project for BVSc & AH Interns of the faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science & Technology(SKUAST),Jammu . This project was being organized for the first time for students from SKAUST, Jammu after its tremendous success in SKUAST, Srinagar. It was aimed at providing practical training in various aspects of equine husbandry medicine and surgery which is a niche area of expertise held by hospitals of the remount Veterinary Crops of the Army. Chief guest, Commander, 71 Sub Area, Brig. A.L Chavan, speaking on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of the officers and staff of 3 Adv Fd Vet hospital for disseminating knowledge on specialized equine treatment to the Interns of SKAUST, Jammu. He also took note of the keen interest evinced by the interns in reaping the maximum benefits from the course. The commander urged the students to use the knowledge gained to improve the health status of the large equine population of the state, especially in remote areas and meet the pressing needs of animal owners. He also presented certificates and an Equine Training manual to the interns who had attended the course. District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Ajay Khajuria, who was the special guest on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of Army in extending helping hand to rebuild the socio-economic life of the people of the state under Operation Sadbhavna. He said that under the Operation, the Army in collaboration with civil administration has initiated various projects in Udhampur district which have been connected with quality education, women empowerment, better healthcare and community development. He hoped that special course on Equine Medicine and Surgery, conducted under Operation Sadbhavna would be of great value for the interns of SKUAST for managing equines ailments with proficiency. Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKAUST, Dr. A.R Nazki speaking on the occasion, lauded the efforts of the army in the undertaking such projects which provided specialized knowledge transfer, which have a very positive impact on animal welfare in the state. He requested for holding such more courses for the benefit of BVSc and AH students of SKAUST in near feature. The commandant 3 Adv Fd Vet Hospital, Col. Joti Dheerudhran welcomed the distinguished guests while as Lt, Col AP Handa presented vote of thanks. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Dr. MS Bhadwal Incharge Internship program, SKAUST, PSO,s of HQ 71 Sub Area and Co’s of Stn units in addition to faculty staff and students of SKAUST and Chief Animal Husbandry, Udhampur.
