| Draconian measures won’t help: PDP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JULY 21: Peoples Democratic Party reiterated that repressive administrative measures were no answer to the problems faced by the people of the state. Condemning the large scale crackdown on youth and continued indiscriminate application of Public Safety Act (PSA), a spokesman of the party today said such draconian actions have proved counterproductive in the past and there is no way for them succeeding now. The spokesman said a reign of terror had been unleashed throughout Kashmir against young men who have been rounded up in hundreds on flimsy charges. There are reports the spokesman said that in many cases arrests are being made with monetary reasons as well and families of victims are forced to cough up huge sums to release their wards. Recalling the advice of the Home Minister P Chidambaram to the state government about dealing the situation on political front rather than resorting to harsh administrative measures, the spokesman said it seems the advice was followed only in breach. It is ironical while the state government leaders are making noises about facilitating dialogue between separatists and the central government all the leaders have been imprisoned under PSA he said and added the draconian law was applied with same objective on everybody ranging from the 14 year old Nayeem of Rainawari to the ailing octogenarian leader Syed Ali Geelani.
