| BJP will not allow hierarchy of Kashmir centric leadership: Chaman | | CU issue | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 21: Taking a strong note over the Central University issue, State BJP today has said it would not allow the smooth conduct of ensuing Assembly session commencing from July 27 if Govt fails to fulfill its commitment of setting up Central University in Samba. Talking to media persons Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, BJP leader of party legislature said that BJP will not tolerate any move on the part of government regarding central university issue and the party would agitate on the issues in the assembly session if the Government expresses any intent to shift this premier institution from Jammu to Samba. ‘It would not be an individual issue of the party and we will support Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) and other student organizations fighting the cause of the students in particular and Jammu region in general’, Gupta said. He accused the Government of backtracking from its commitment to set up Central University in Jammu and opposed the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that there will be two campuses of this university one each at Jammu and Kashmir. ‘The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in convocation address at Jammu University last year that Central University would be set up in Jammu and Indian Institute of Management in Kashmir but this Government has ignoring the announcement made by PM’, he said. He recalled his recent meeting with Governor N N Vohra and claimed that even he made it clear that the Central University has to be set up in Jammu while IIM would be establish in Kashmir. The compulsions of Kashmir-centric leadership can be understood but BJP will not allow things to go at the cost of the interest of the people of Jammu region, Gupta warned. All crops in Jammu region have been destroyed and the farmers are at the verge of starvation. It has left no other option to seek government help for their livelihood, he said. Taking a dig at the Congress party, he alleged whatever Ghulam Nabi Azad has said about PDP while leaving the earlier coalition is now being pursued more vigorously by the present coalition which is harming the cause of Jammu region much. He further said that since the earlier incumbency had boasted of generating the 3700 cr resources from different areas and have sought nearly 18,000 crore help from the centre, the present government demanding 22,0000 crore is another astonishing figure that Cong-NC is looking forward to run the state annually. Gupta also ridiculed over the recent development held over Manmohan-Zardari talks that were bases on peace building lines keeping terrorism out of the gambit. This tantamount to a mockery of sort when the neighbors in foe try to talk peace whole keeping terrorism at bay, the only issue that has made them foes, said Prof. Gupta, adding such developments between Pakistan and India simply hints towards the latter conceding tamely to the pressure.
