| Pak need to accept Clinton's advice | | | The US secretary of State,Hillary Clinton, has been quite candid in conveying to Islamabad that fight against terrorism would insulate Pakistan against instability, unrest and destruction. While describing Pakistan housing"syndicate of terrorism" Clinton does not conceal the US Government's deep concern over the activities of the Al Qaeda, the Talibans and other extremist groups because such activities were danger to the entire world. She has made it clear, during her current five-day visit to India, that those countries that provide haven to the terrorists ultimately face their wrath. That she is correct in her assessment is proved by the activities of the Talibans in th Swat valley and in the NWFP.The Pakistani troops have remained engaged in carrying out operations against the Talibans in the entire Swat valley and it s adjoining areas. The concentration of the Talibans had been so heavy that more than two million civilians became refugees after they fled the regioon in the wake of armed clashes between the Talibans and the Government forces.Perhaps Clinton has been quite vocal on the need for taking firm action against the perperators of Mumbai mayhem after she saw the Indian Prime Minister,Manmohan Singh, toughening his stand in Egypt where he had a session with his Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani.Manmohan Singh had made it clear that a meaningful composite dialogue could be possible only after Islamabad took strong measures against those involved in Mumbai carnage. He reiterated his stand that India would resume dialogue once it felt satisfied that Pakistan's territory was not being used for exporting terrorism to India. One good news for Pakistan is that Clinton has admitted that Islamabad has taken some st eps for countering terrorism but she wished the Government to take more measures for ending the scourage of terrorism. Both the American President,Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have suggested to Delhi to support Islamabad in its fight against terrorists.Well Delhi would be the first to assist Islamabad in its operations against the terrorists because a terrorist infested Pakistan is a major threat to India.During the last over 25 years India has suffered heavy losses in various states, especially in Jammu and Kashmir and the North-East,where peace has been hanging by a fragile thread.People in these two regions live under a spell of political instability and under adverse security situation.During the over five years there has been marked improvment in the bilateral ties between India and the USA.The basic reason for this development has been growing American concern over the rapid growth in terrorist activities in Pakistan and by forging better relations with India the US wants to build pressure on Islamabad for initiating measures that could remove the scare of terrorism from the Indian subcontinent first and later from other countries in the world. It is time for Pakistan to heed Clinton's advice.Accepting her advice would mean flow of monetary aid to Pakistan which it badly requires for tackling severe financial crisis. If Pakistan does not listen to Clinton's suggestions it may face another phase of political instability and collapse in security.
