| CPI(M) to raise AFSPA, autonomy issue in coming assembly session | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 22 : The Communist Party of India (M) will raise the issue of withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), and granting of autonomy, besides other social and economical issues concerning the people, in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly which will convene from July 27 here. Party's lone member in the house Mohammad Yousuf Targami, who is also state secretary of the CPI(M) said here today that he had forwarded few private members resolutions to Legislative Assembly. He said out of four resolutions, three, including those on revocation of AFSPA, reconsidering of the resolution on Autonomy were already adopted on June 26, 2000 and providing food grains to the people of the State on pattern of Tamil Nadu, have been admitted by the Legislative Assembly. The fourth resolution which had talked about granting sustenance allowances to unemployed educated youth in the State has been disallowed, Mr Targami said. A spokesman of the CPI (M) said the party believed in revocation of AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir as the draconian laws have not only given an unwanted impunity to the armed forces which has been a major cause for the human rights abuse in the state but has also added to the already existing alienation among masses.
He said the party was also interested in reconsideration of the resolution adopted by the house on Autonomy. Regarding the shortage of essential commodities especially food grains, the spokesman said CPI (M) has always raised voice in favour of availability of ration to common people on minimum possible rates.
