| Polythene association appreciates CM’s role | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 22: J&K polythene manufacturers and traders association has thanked the chief minister, Omar Abdullah for giving patient hearing to their deputation and giving assurance of the association Rajesh Gupta and its spokesman Rakesh Gupta informed that their deputation had called on the chief minister at Srinagar on July 16 and was kind enough to give patient hearing to their grievances and their plea for not letting a viable industry and trade of polythene bags, providing employment to over 20,000 hands directly with another one lakh people earning their living from it, to die down. The chief minister assured them of giving the industry a breathing space to switch over to alternative source of earning as well as providing employment to a large number of hands. He proposed appointing of a committee of officers by the industries Minister to look into their grievances and provide them a package of relief and rehabilitation, to enable them to come out of the crises they are facing as a result of abrupt blanket ban imposed by the state government on polythene bags. The deputation later called on the industries minister, SS Salathia and demanded early appointment of the committee and announcement of relief and rehabilitation package to the industry and the trade, which has gone sick on account of the ban, snatching livelihood from over one lakh people in the state. Salathia assured that within a week after the commissioner/ secretary industries, who is on leave, joins back his duty, the committee in this regard will be constituted and asked o make recommendations for providing relief and rehabilitation to the manufacturers and traders of polythene bags and also find out alternative avenues for the unit holders to switch over. Salathia assured the deputation that as minister incharge industries it enjoins upon him to promote the industry and hence he will not let a viable industry to lie down and become sick, leading to more unemployment and snatching of livelihood from a large number of people.
