| AJHLA urged govt defuse unrest over shifting of centre university | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 22: All Jammu hotels and lodges association (AJHLA) has asked the state government to defuse the brewing crises and unrest in Jammu over the apprehended move to shift central university from Jammu region as originally proposed to Kashmir valley. In meeting of the association held here today under the chairmanship of its president, Inderjeet Khajuria expressed its serious concern over the brewing unrest taking a serious term, adversely affecting the business in general and tourism and pilgrimage in particular in Jammu and Kashmir. The apathetic attitude of the government towards the simmering unrest has potentials of leading the situation to develop as it had developed last year of Amarnath land row, causing a heavy loss to the business in general and tourism and pilgrimage related trades in particular. It further observer that about two month long turmoil in Kashmir valley has adversely affected Amarnath pilgrimage as well as holiday tourism. This phenomenon is causing anxiety to the business community, particularly the traders connected with pilgrimage and tourism, both in Kashmir and Jammu. Khajuria stated that in Kashmir valley bumper tourism was expected this year and the prospective tourists and even Amarnath bound pilgrims had advanced bookings of hotels and house boat rooms and there bookings till ending August. But due to unrest and turmoil in the valley more than 50% of the bookings were cancelled. Similarly, it is feared that the bookings made by Vaishno Devi pilgrims and other tourists to Jammu and Kashmir may be cancelled, if the unrest in Jammu division over location of central university is not resolved soon. Others who attended the meeting included Ajay Gupta, HS Manhas, Pawan Gupta, Baldev Raj, Sunil Suri and Vikramjeet Singh.
