| Social Forestry organizes debate on environment education | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JULY 22: A debate on “Should environmental education be made compulsory in school curriculum” was organized in the premises of Stephens International Public School, Nihalpur, Kullain, Miran Sahib by the Department of Social Forestry. Regional Director, School Forestry, Jammu, Mr Manoj Pant presided over the function. About ten speakers from different schools in Jammu district participated in the competition. Mr Aman Mehta from KC Public School, Jammu, Miss Rachna Singh and Miss Madhu both the Stephens International Public School bagged the first, second and third position respectively. Those who spoke in favour vehemently highlighted the need to conserve the depleting resources and pollution environment for making the globe a safer place to live. However, those speaking against the motion said that there is no need for making environment study a compulsory subject but the students must be made conscious about the need of clean and green environment. Mr Pant stressed on planting atleast one plant by one student every year. He also invited the children of different schools to participate in the main function of 60th Van Mahotsav to be held at Government Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry College, SKUAST, R S Pura on July 25. The first three winners of the debate competition will be given prizes by the Forest Minister.
