| Central university not established in Kashmir: Sadhotra | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 23: Senior national Conference leader, former minister and member J&K Legislative council, Ajay Sadhotra in a press conference here today said that it is unfortunate that some disgruntled elements for their own petty political interests are raking up a controversy regarding the location of the central university and are trying to mislead the common people by making false and provocative statements. Sadhotra said a bogey has been raised that the central university which was to b located in Jammu has been shifted to Kashmir. This he said is far from truth and is bereft of facts. He said the location of the central university has not been decided as yet and the central committee headed by a joint secretary of ministry of human resource development government of India which was to decide the location has not even visited the state to see the locations and decide and even the process of identification of site by the central authorities has not been started as yet, Sadhotra said. He further added that in 2008 it was decided by the union government of India that fourteen central universities and six IIMs shall be established across the country and out of these one central university and one IIM shall be located in Jammu and Kashmir state and to this objective the state government formed a committee headed by the then planning commissioner which identified six locations across the state, where the central university could be located, which included Sopore, Budgam and Pulwama in Kashmir region and R.S. Pura, near Nandani tunnel and Samba in Jammu region. He said the state government is sensitive to the regional sensibilities of Jammu and Kashmir and in view of those sensibilities and sensitivities, the state government approached the union HRD minister with a proposal that the government of India should sanction two central universities one to be located in Jammu region and other in Kashmir division. Sadhotra said the state government realized that if the central university is located in Kashmir region the people of Jammu region will feel deprived and discriminated if the university is located in Jammu region the people of Kashmir region feel deprived and discriminated and in order to create balance and not to hurt the sentiments of the either region two central universities one in each region will meet the aspirations of both the regions. Sadhotra said in the event of the union government only allowing one central university in the state, the government feels that in order to keep the regional balance and not to hurt the sentiments of any region it will be prudent to have one central university with two campuses one in Jammu region and the other in Kashmir region with the administrative office at both the places moving along with the annual darbar move. Sadhotra cautioned the people of Jammu not to get carried by the false propaganda unleashed by rightist ideology people who are hell bent to disturb peace in the state appealed the youth and the students not to be mislead by the disruptive forces, who are hell bent on creating disorder and disharmony
