| Implement 6th Pay Commission: CPI(M) to Jammu and Kashmir government | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jul 23 : Urging the Jammu and Kashmir government to implement the 6th Pay Commission recommendations as agreed upon with the representatives of the state employees earlier, the Communist Party of India (M) today said delay had compelled them to agitate.
In a statement here, the State Secretary of the CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Targami said unlike some other states, Jammu and Kashmir government had delayed the implementation of the 6th pay commission which has caused an unrest among the employees and has forced them to agitate voicing their demands.
Mr Tarigami said decisions and agreements made during the meeting with the representatives of employees should be implemented in letter and spirit forthwith so that the employees are not grieved and forced to resort to strike.
He said with the implementation of 6th Pay Commission in the State, there was a need to address the grievances of those working on contractual, casual and need basis and Anganwari workers, helpers and ASHAs, who have long been demanding in their wages.
Paying lower than the minimum wages to those working on contractual and casual basis was unjust, Mr Tarigami said adding there should be uniform enhancement in their wages to save them from exploitation and pathetic situation.
The CPI(M) state secretary demanded the government to enhance the wage component of Anganwadi workers and helpers under state sector as has been done in most States.
He also made a strong plea for regulariSation of those working on contractual and casual basis besides those who are paid out of consolidated funds.
He said denying minimum wages to these workers was contrary to the provisions of Minimum Wages Act. This, he said amounts to violation of legal entitlements to them.
Mr Targami said engagement of employees on ad hoc and contractual basis was not a solution for harnessing the human resource in right perspective and overcoming the deficiency of manpower in the departments.
He also demanded regulariSation of those working on adhoc, contractual, consolidated and contingency paid basis and those working under Rehber-i-Zirat scheme who have been rendering their services for years together in such capacities.
