Dilawar for preserving, showcasing of J&K’s rich heritage and scenic splendour

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 27 – Urging for a massive awareness campaign about vast tourism potential in the state, the Minister for Tourism, Horticulture, PHE, Irrigation and Flood control, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir today called upon the younger generation to play their vital role in preserving and marketing the rich heritage and natural scenic splendour of Kashmir on the world tourism landscape.
Speaking at inter-college seminar on “Tourism Enriches” organized in connection with world tourism day here at historic Amar Singh College, the Minister underscored the indispensable role of youth especially people associated with the tourism industry to put the state back on the tourism map of the world with all its dignity and grandeur.
The Secretary Tourism, Mr. Naseem Akhtar, Director Tourism Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Managing director JKTDC dr. G. N. Qasba, Executive Director General Tourism Mr. Mohammad Ashraf, Principals of various Degree Colleges and a large number of college students were present on the occasion.
The Minister said that a massive motivational and tourism promotion campaign would be launched to attract domestic and foreign tourists in large numbers. However, he sought people’s support in restoring peace and tranquility in the state adding that congenial atmosphere was the basic requirement for promotion of tourism.
He urged the need to publicize different forms of tourism so that varied tourist landscape of the state is exposed to the potential tourist world over. The Minister also called for an attitudinal change towards guest tourists adding that historic hospitality of our economy should be encouraged without obliterating over delicate and live cultural heritage.
The Minster also directed the concerned authorities of tourism department to organize visits of the local students to virgin tourist destination so that they are made abreast with the vast tourism potential in the state and the extent of destruction caused to our God bestowed tourist places due to human greed.
Mr. Dilawar Mir also sought cooperation of the media in showcasing tourist landscape of the state in the world tourism market in a perspective way. He said there was need to neutralize and off-set the bad impact created about Jammu and Kashmir situation outside the state after some unfortunate grenade throwing incidents on tourists. He said now the situation is improved considerably and a vigorous motivational campaign is need of the hour to attract fresh tourists.
The Minster distributed prizes among the best speakers at the seminar. The first prize was bagged by Nida Rafea of Government College for Women, M. A. Road, second prize by Mohammad Ibrahim Wani of S. P. College Srinagar and the third prize by Ms Mohisina Farooq of Government Degree College Anantnag.
Later, at a separate function organized by the Tourism Department at Tourist reception Centre, Srinagar, the Minister gave this year’s best awards to the hoteliers, houseboat owners and travel & tour operators.
The awards have for the first time been instituted to encourage individuals associated with tourism industry.
Best hotelier of the year award was presented to Mushtaq Ahmed Burza of Pahalgam Hotel, best tour operator award to Nazir Ahmad of Jhonsons Travel Agency whereas Noor Mohammad Pakhtoon of Pakhtoon Group of Houseboats was presented best Houseboat owner of the year award.
