| JKWDC organized one day workshop | | Reach out to marginalized in every nook & corner of the state: Sakina | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, JULY 23– Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Sakina Itoo by lighting the traditional lamp inaugurated one-day Capacity Building Workshop for the Betterment of Differently Abled women here today. Objective of the workshop is to ensure empowerment of Differently Abled women by providing them training, term loan, educational loan and marketing support of their products an official spokesperson said. The workshop was organized by J&K Women’s Development Corporation (JKWDC) in collaboration with National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation (NHFDC), Government of India. Addressing on the occasion, the Minister said that JKWDC has been created for promoting socio-economic upliftment of women in the state. She said that the Corporation ensures welfare of the women by creating an enabling environment for the women to become self reliant by establishing income generating units which serve the twin purpose of employment and empowerment. ‘JKWDC is also a channelizing agency for the schemes of NHFDC, National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation, National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation and Siddha Scheme for Self Help Groups under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the minister said. Stressing for organizing such awareness camps in far-flung and in-accessible areas, Ms. Sakina asked to reach to such marginalizing Communities like Gujjars and Bakerwals so that the needy could get more benefit from the state and centrally sponsored welfare schemes. She asked the field functionaries to submit the monthly progress report of the cases they settled and registered in their respective offices. Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare, Parmod Jain said that the department disbursed Rs. 250 crore for implementation of 62 schemes in the state. He said that the workshop would sensitize the NGOs and beneficiaries to avail the benefits of trainings, loan and marketing support provided by JKWDC. Managing Director, JKWDC, Dr Naheed Soz said that the Corporation has disbursed Rs. 27.85 crore among 5754 women beneficiaries, imparted training of various crafts to 19107 beneficiaries, constructed 13 community halls, conducted 228 awareness camps, framed 1820 Self Help Groups and 7 Block Level Societies. Later, the Minister distributed cheques of worth Rs. 10 lakh among 13 beneficiaries to establish their own income generating units. The function among others was attended by Chairman cum Managing Director, NHFDC, Ravi Kanth, Director Social Welfare, Kashmir, Hilal Ahmad Parray and Participants of various Societies and NGOs.
