| Romesh reviews functioning of various departments at Pulwama, stresses for dedication towards duty | | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 27 – The Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation flood control, Industries and Commerce Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma took stock of functioning of various departments under his charge and assessed the damage caused to the infrastructure due to recent floods at a meeting at Pulwama today. The District Development Commissioner, Pulwama Mr. Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo while giving details of damage due to recent floods apprised the meeting that district suffered a loss of about Rs.1.40 crore. About 26600 hectares of paddy/fruit crops were damaged resulting in estimated loss of Rs. 11020 lakh. Under power sector 240, electric poles, 39 transformers and 17 kms of ASCR conductor were damaged resulting loss of Rs. 43.48 lakh. Similarly under R&B sector 93 roads, 6 bridges, 41 culverts/pipes were damaged causing a loss of Rs. 826.25 lakh. Under PHE sector 125 water supply schemes have been affected which need Rs. 356.92 lakh for restoration. Some of the schemes have been restored. Sixty four irrigation canals and 7 nallahs were also damaged rendering a loss of Rs 14.85 crore. 540 houses have been partially or fully damaged. Reviewing the functioning of various departments the Minister was informed that 19 water supply schemes are presently under execution in Pulwama under district sector at a cost of Rs 56 lakh. 25 schemes have been taken up under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) with a cost of Rs 500 lakh. Four schemes have been taken up under double shift system which include Banjwani Tral water supply scheme coming up at a cost of Rs 337 lakh, Lelhar WSS with a cost of Rs one crore and Kerawa Water Supply scheme with a cost of Rs 86.7 lakh. All these schemes will be completed this year. Two major irrigation schemes one Tral Lift irrigation scheme with a cost of Rs 70 crore and Rajpora lift Irrigation scheme with a cost of Rs 31 crore are coming up in the district. Speaking on the occasion the Minister urged upon the officers to serve the people living in far-flung areas and down trodden with dedication and provide them every possible assistance. He called for imbibing the virtues of dedication, devotion and honesty. He said that our aim should be to serve the society so that people are benefited. The Minister later visited various flood affected areas of the district which include Kakapora, Lelhar, Ratnipora, Mohanvij, Wandakpora, Piglina, Goripora, Pahoo and other areas. Various deputations met the Minister en-route and apprised him about their problems and sufferings. He assured the deputationists that government will provide them every possible assistance and help. He said that repairs of embankments is the first preference. |
