All left out widows, old aged to be covered under welfare schemes: Sakina

SRINAGAR, JULY 24
Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo today assured that all the left out poor widows, old aged and the disabled would be covered under the pension schemes by implementing Indra Gandhi National Widow Pension and Indra Gandhi Disability Pension schemes, for which the survey is underway.
She said this while chairing a review meeting of Social Welfare and ICDS officers at Baramulla. The minister said that as many as 3000 more Anganwari Centres will be established under phase 3rd in the state in near future besides making all the non-functional centers functional in the state by December this year.
Sakina also affirmed that an Old Age Home will be established in Baramulla district shortly and stated that from current year all the children shall be provided nutrition twice daily and impressed upon the officers to provide quality nutrition and wholesome diet to the children.
The minister called upon people particularly the rich to supplement the efforts of government in extending succor to the destitute, orphans and marginalized, who have suffered during the turmoil in the state. “The help the poor and the suffering is our moral and religious obligation”, she added.
Earlier, while giving resume of activities of the social welfare department in Baramulla, the Deputy Commissioner informed informed that under ICDS programme 66840 beneficiaries were covered under nutrition programme for which an amount of Rs. 4.02 crore were incurred.
Among others, MLA Sangrama Basharat Bukhari, MLA Sopore, Haji Mohd. Ashraf, Commissioner/Secretary Social Welfare Pramod Jain, Director Social Welfare Hilal Ahmed and Dy. Commissioner Baramulla participated in the meeting. On this occasion MLAs put forth various suggestions and demands.
