| JKNPP, BJP oppose demilitarisation | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 24 The Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party and the BJP have supported union Home Minister,P.Chidambaram's stand on demilitarization, Vice President of the Panthers Party, Harsh Dev Singh and President of the state unit of the BJP Ashok Khajuria, today said "Chidambaram has endorsed our stand by annoucing that troops were not to be withdrawan from within the valley." Harsh Dev and Khajuria said that withdrawal of troops and the repeal of the AFSPA were issues that cannot be decided without taking into account the ground realities. They explained that the situation in Kashmir was not conducive for demilitarization. Harsh Dev said that "an extraordinary situation calls for extraordinary measures for ensuring peace." He said that "security forces, including the police, will fail to combat against terrorists and to those trying to endanger the country's solidarity and security with ordinary laws that are meant for dealing with criminals." JKNPP leader said that in 2000 the Government opted for nomination of combat operations and this decision resulted in regrouping of militants who succeeded in establishing their hideouts in other areas while Khajuria said that it is too early to think of withdrawal of troops and the repeal of the AFSPA.
