| Air Marshal Browne visits Air Force Station Leh | | | Early Times Report Jammu, 24 July 2009 Air Marshal NAK Browne Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command visited Air Force Station Leh, the highest operational airbase of the world on the other day. Defence spokesperson Jammu stated that the Air Marshall accompanied by Mrs. Kiran Browne, President Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Regional) were received by Air Commodore KS Gill, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Leh and Mrs. Ranjeet Gill, President Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local). The three day visit formed a part of the familiarization tour of Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Air Command after having taken over the command. It also include visit to Kargil, Thoise, Base Camp and Advanced Landing Grounds like Daulat-Beg-Oldie, Phuchche and Nyoma as well as paying tribute to Kargil war heroes at Siachen War Memorial. He also inspected various units at the Leh airbase and addressed the station personnel and interacted with the key appointments. He expressed his satisfaction over the operational readiness of the region and stressed upon the continued improvement in the quality of life of the personnel posted at such high altitudes. During the visit, Air Marshal Browne flagged off a six day Cycling Expedition led by Squadron Leader D Vats from Leh to Phuckche which will cover a total of 262 kms of high altitude region.
