SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 27 – The House Committee of Public Undertakings (PUC) has impressed upon the officers of Power Development Department to make all out efforts to improve the power scenario in the state, adding that this basic amenity is attached with the common man and all agencies concerned have to make serious efforts to provide this facility to all inhabitants of the state. The PUC that met here today with MLA Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri in chair has reviewed the overall functioning of the PDD and suggested various measures to improve it further. The committee discussed Audit paras of CAG’s Report for the year 2000-01, 2002-03 and 2003-04 pertaining to the PDD. The Committee opined that the power position becomes erratic during winter months in valley and summer months in Jammu region due to increased needs. The department should evolve new mechanism to tackle the peculiar situation during these periods so that the common man may not suffer. Owing to the growing needs of electricity, the department should take measures to improve its existing infrastructure, the Committee asserted.
