| SC rejects bail plea of Shopian 4 cops | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 24- The Supreme Court today dismissed the case of former SP Shopian, Mr. Javed Iqbal Mattoo, filed through his wife, and other accused in the Shopian incident.
The State Government had engaged a battery of prominent lawyers including Mr. Harish Salve and Arvinder Sharan to plead the state government’s case. The Advocate General, Jammu & Kashmir, Mohammad Ishaq Qadri was also rushed by the state government to New Delhi to plead the state’s case in the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court, accordingly, on the basis of pleadings by the prominent lawyers including Advocate General, Jammu & Kashmir, left it to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) whether to allow conducting of Narco test are not.
The dismissal of the bail application and the pleadings of the case by the lawyers of Jammu and Kashmir Government has accordingly authenticated all the decisions taken by the State government with regard to the arrest of former SP, Dy. SP and other police officials in the Shopian incident while following the legal procedure appropriately.
While dismissing the SLP, the Supreme Court directed the accused to approach Session Judge, Shopian for bail who will be now the appropriate judicial authority to decide their application.
