| Bazaz urges PoK govt open ‘Sharda Temple’ for public | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 25: The Jammu Kashmir Democratic Forum (JKDF) today urged the Pakistan occupied Kashmir government (PoK) to open the ancient Sharda Devi temple, the most revered shrine of the Kashmiri Pandits, for the general public in the wake of resumption of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service. Bazaz said “It will be a good step as people will get an opportunity to visit this historic temple which is now in ruins”. He further said the decision will help in improving people-to-people contact between the two countries, especially among the divided families. Bazaz said that the PoK government had earlier allocated Rs. One million for the renovation of the Sharda Temple. The temple is dedicated to goddess Saraswati, goddess of learning and located in the Kishanganga valley just across the line of control in a small village called Shardi at the confluence of river Kishanganga and river Jhelum. The Kashmiri pandits have since long been demanding permission to undertake annual pilgrimage to the Sharda Temple which is about 150 Km from Muzaffarabad.
