| Shanta Kumar lambastes UPA for deviating from country’s stand on terrorism | | 2-day state BJP working committee meet concludes | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 25: BJP National Vice-President and Prabhari Jammu and Kashmir Shanta Kumar has said that the voters have given a new direction in the last Parliament election by rejecting the candidates with criminals backgrounds and politicians indulging in caste and region-politics, thus giving a strong coalition at the centre with UPA coalition in power and BJP coalition in opposition. Addressing the concluding session of the 2-day state working committee meeting at Kunjwani in Jammu today Shanta Kumar said that while BJP is in opposition at the centre, here in J&K too we have been given mandate as a strong opposition. Our team of 11 MLAs is strong enough to see that the government does not take any decision which hurts the interests of Jammu and Ladakh, he added. The BJP National leader said the Government of India has deviated from the country’s stand on terrorism and the same is clear from the joint statement of Indian Prime Minister and his Pakistani counterpart. While BJP-led NDA had made it clear to Pakistan that the core issue of talks was terrorism only and unfortunately the Congress-led UPA is adopting soft approach on the issue of terrorism. He also charged the Union government of compromising on the nation’s interests while making arms deal with the United States. Speaking on Kashmir problem, Shanta Kumar said this problem was born in the days when India got independence but unfortunately it is still unresolved and getting complex with the passing years due to no firm policy of the successive Congress governments at the centre. The Congress leaders at New Delhi always worked to please the Kashmiri leaders and did not dare to take firm decision for the solution of this problem. He also spoke on a number of local issues and asked the party MLAs to raise all such issues in an effective way in the coming session of the assembly. Expressing his party’s concern on the skyrocketing prices, Shanta Kumar said the common man is finding it difficult to support family. A poor is becoming poorer day by day and the rich becoming richer. This, he added is due to such policies of UPA which watches the interests of big business houses. The working committee unanimously adopted two resolutions moved by State President Ashok Khajuria. While the first resolution adopted was to treat polling booth as the basic unit of the party, the other resolution declared R .S .Pura as a district for party’s organizational set up. During this 2-day meet, Party president Ashok Khajuria, North Zone Organizing Secretary Manohar Lal, party legislature leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta and National Executive Member Dr. Nirmal Singh addressed different sessions and stressed on united efforts to ensure equitable treatment with Jammu in all matters and at all levels.
