Govt committed to preserve literary treasures of J&K: Peerzada

Srinagar, September 27 – Saying that libraries are precious assets to be preserved for the coming generations, Minister for Education, Science Technology, Haj and Auqaf, Peerzada Mohammad Syeed today said that government is committed to provide every sort of help to the Libraries Department to enable it to conserve and expand the literary treasures of the sate.
The minister was speaking after inaugurating “Two Day Book Exhibition” organized by Kashmir book supplies and publishers Association in collaboration with Directorate of Libraries and Research J & K at Sir Syed Iqbal convention Hall at Sanat Nagar Srinagar here today.
Peerzada said that, “If we want to make our future bright, we have to upgrade our libraries on modern lines as per the need of day”. He assured the authorities that government would provide every help to the department to enable it to develop its establishments on modern lines. He said that the budgetary allocation is to be increased and the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
Peerzada directed the Director Libraries to encourage the writers intellectuals, Poets, readers of the state, to chanalize their intellectual capabilities in a better way. He said that this department would prove a platform to enhance their intellectual capabilities. He said J & K is known as a microcosm India, due to its centuries old cultural heritage and it is our duty to preserve the our identity.
Director libraries, J&K Syed Fazullha said that after taking the charge of the department, he took up the challenge of its upgradation on modern lines. He said at present all district libraries of the state have been computerized. He said “Book” is still powerful while explaining his point in the present day context.
Giving the resume of the working of the department. Deputy Director Libraries Kashmir, Mr. Zahid said that libraries are the highest temple of learning and there are about 147 libraries all over the state. He said during last 3 ½ years all these centres of Books have been modernized. He said by next year the department would complete digitalization of 9 lakh persain, Arabic and Sanskrit manuscripts. He said about 50% of these manuscripts have been digitalized so far. He lauded the role of RajRam Mohan Roy foundation Kolkotta for modernizing the system of department.
In this exhibition about 40 thousands books were displayed by 80 participants of Kashmir Booksellers and publishers and Delhi based publishers. These include Ali Mohammad and Sons, Muktabi-ELIM-e-ADAB,Mezan publication, watan Publication, Iqbal Institute Kashmir University, Shaita Academy, National Council for Promotion for Urdu language and National Book Trust of India.
