Bring greater accountability at all level Citizen council to route public problems to government: Gul

Terming greater closeness between administration and public as the hallmark of present coalition government’s functioning, the Advisor to Chief Minister Mubarak Gul has asked the different divisional heads of departments to visit far-flung areas frequently to assess availability and delivery of services on ground.
He exhorted the officials to convene meetings of district officers to bring greater accountability at all levels.
Speaking at a meeting to review the functioning of different divisional departments here today, Gul said that a citizen council will be constituted to route the problems of common masses to the government.
“Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has taken a bold initiative of conducting public darbars at different places to usher governance at doorstep,” he said and added that his three-day visit to Jammu is a sequel to the efforts to narrow the gap between administration and the people. He emphatically stressed on setting up a grievance cell right from CE to JE level for registering public complaints, adding that the number of grievances registered and the action taken should be brought in writing. He asked PHE department to monitor the functioning of Sitlee Filteration Plant and check the quality of water after every 15 days.
Reviewing the functioning of Social Welfare department, the Advisor said that field visits by Supervisors should be regularly checked by the superior officers and maintain a stock register. Director Social Welfare informed the Advisor about the lack of funds for wages to Anganwari workers and helpers as well as pensioners.
Director, CA&PD apprised Gul that entire supply of BPL ration is being ensured while curtailment is in APL ration supply to plain areas due to shortage of 62,000 quintals of ration and directed him to check the quantity of gas in the LPG cylinders being supplied to the public as there have been repeated complaints about less quantity of gas in the cylinders.
A number of deputations including deputation of anganwari workers, J&K Plus 2 Lecturers Forum; Kashmiri Pandits; Retail Kerosene Oil Dealers of Jammu Urban areas, SC & Backward Classes Cell, J&K NC, J&K Sarya Sadar Sabha, Youth National Conference, people of Ward No 14 and people from all cross-sections met the Advisor and apprised him of their grievances.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Chief Engineers (CEs) of PDD, PHE and Flood Control departments, Director, CA&PD, Jammu, Director Social Welfare, Jammu, Deputy Director, Hospitality and protocol, Deputy Director, Estates, Jammu, Deputy Director, Information and senior officers of Floriculture and Revenue participated in the meeting.
