| SKUAST scientists felicitate Mir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 26- A group of senior scientists of Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science & Technology (SKUAST), Kashmir called on the Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir today and felicitated him on assuming the charge of Agriculture department. The scientists were led by Prof. K. D. Farooqi, Professor Emeritus; Fruits. Thanking the scientists for the gesture, Mir said agriculture and its allied sectors are the main source of income for a majority of the people of the state and asked them to contribute significantly to their respective disciplines to bring economic prosperity to the state. Earlier, the scientists gave a resume of the activities of the University since its inception in 1982. The University has released 60 new disease resistant varieties of vegetables, cereals and fruits and their adoption by the farming community is monitored by the University. Mir was told that country’s first cold water Fisheries College has been established at SKUAST-K in 2005. The Minister told the scientists that he would be taking keen interest in the activities of the university and assured them that their other problems would also be looked into.
