| Emotional play ‘Nadi Payasi Thi’ staged by Natrang | | |

Jammu, July 26: ‘Nadi Payasi Thi’- a poetic portrayal of life in Hindi written by one of the most celebrated Hindi playwright of the country Dr. Dharamveer Barti, directed by Balwant Thakur, presented here today at Natrang Studio Theatre in the weekly series Sunday Theatre. Dr. Draramveer Bharti who has been the editor of a famous Hindi weekly ‘Dharmyug’ and being himself a poet and a litterateur himself has beautifully portrayed the turbulent life of a writer through this highly intellectually stimulating play. Set at the backdrop of a superstitious village folk inhabited on the banks of a river which is overflowing due to flash floods. People believe that water level of the river decreases only after someone sacrifices the life by jumping into it. The belief further says that this bloody river never spared the villagers and every year some one has to be ready to sacrifice in order to save the village. At This situation a writer (Rajesh) disillusioned with his life, arrives in the village to take refuse at one of his college-mate’s (Shanker) place. Disgusted with the bitterness of the relations and untoward happenings of the society, the writer ridicules everyone including himself. For him the life has become meaningless and wishes to get rid of it as early as possible. Every time he reflects on the society and life in a highly poetic manner and people around him are not able to reach the range of his thoughts. Sensing problems in him Shanker takes him to his family doctor (Krishna) with whom his sister-in-law (Padma) is engaged.
When everyone in the family is opposed to the outbursts of the writer, Padma being a poet herself gets influenced by his intellectual acumen. This inclination of Padma gives birth to a triangular love-relation conflict. Through Padma’s poetry Rajesh sees life and beauty in every thing and on the contrary, Krishna with who Padma was engaged is unable to bear this and looses his life by jumping into the overflowing river. The water level of the river reduces and the villagers take a sigh of relief. The playwright has symbolized the bloody river as the negative forces flowing inside us. The negativity is tend to take its toll. Death is no solution, the solution lies in living with postivity, hope and in developing a vision which sees beauty in every thing.
Manoj Bhatt gave a good account of his oratory skills and demonstrated his hold over play of emotions. Gaurav Jamwal as Kranti underlined his growing acting versatility. Tajasvi Sharma in her complex role of Padma successfully portrayed the inner conflict of the character. Mohit Sharma as Shankar gave an engrossing performance. Pratibha Heer as Sheela did justifiable effort. Rohit Verma as villager and the playback singer won appreciation of all.
The lights were designed and executed by Rahul Singh. The sound effects were played by Rohit Verma and Mohd Yaseen coordinated the show. Pankush Vermawas the presenter.
