Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid when they gunned down a heavily armed militant near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said today.
They said troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) at Tankapora. However, when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened fire, they informed, adding troops also retaliated and in the fierce clash one militant was killed.
One AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 18 rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades and one damaged wireless set were recovered from the slain militant.
Search in the area had been launched to neutralise other militants, if any, they said.
