| Munish Gupta Jammu, July 26- The 48 hour ultimatum to Government given by the Central University Joint Action Committee (CUJAC) on the establishment of the Central University in Jammu has been fully endorsed by several organizations including the ruling Congress party. Addressing media persons here today the Organizing Secretary CUJAC Ajay Tharoor while serving the 48 hour ultimatum to the state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has rejected the Chief Minister assertion of establishing two separate campus one each at Srinagar and Jammu. In case the government fails to clear its stand within next two days, the JAC would be forced to take extreme steps besides giving bandh call. CUJAC has also appealed to all the elected MLAs of Jammu to raise this issue in coming assembly session commencing tomorrow. Failure on their part would be viewed seriously; he said adding that the public representatives shall face the wrath of the students and the people of Jammu as was exhibited during the Amarnath land row last year. BJP State President Ashok Khajuria has assured the agitating students of Jammu province that the party is with them on the issue of establishment of central university in Jammu . He said that the BJP has always stood for the cause of Jammu and will not allow the government to shift the CU from Jammu to Kashmir at any cost. He said that the issue is on top priority of the BJP and all the party MLAs will raise the issue unitedly in the assembly session. Ashok Khajuria assured the students organization that the BJP will fully support and stand by them in case they launch any agitation over this issue. He also warned the government to desist from any move aimed at shifting the Central University and said that the government will be responsible for the consequences in case it do not setup the CU at Samba, where the land for this purpose has already been identified.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee State Secretary Krishan Lal Gupta along with other party leaders and workers have supported the demand of various student organizations, for establishment of the Central University at Jammu. While talking to media persons here today Gupta hoped that all the party MPs and legislators would rise to the occasion in opposing the decision of shifting Central University from Jammu to Srinagar. He reminded the concerned authorities about last year incidents in which Jammu people, students, traders, tourists, daily bread earners, laborers and especially the economy of the State had suffered to the large extent. He further said that since the land has already been Identified for establishing Central University at Jammu there is no question of shifting the same to Kashmir. Shiv Sena Hindustan while extending its support to CUJAC has said that shifting of Central University to Kashmir would be suicidal for Jammuties and warned of dire consequences if the government ever thought of it. While addressing the media persons here today, Dimpy Kohli President and Rakesh Kak Press Secretary of Shiv Sena Hindustan said that they are happy that the students are leading this agitation as the student does not have their vested interests like political leaders. Referring to the Chief Minister’s assertion of two separate campus of Central University one each at Srinagar and Jammu the SSH leaders asked the Chief Minister to ensure establishment of IIM at Jammu as well. There should be no reason for creating confusion by the National Conference leaders, they said and described Ajay Sadhotra statement on the issue as sheer non- sense. They also appealed to all the elected MLA's of BJP to raise this issue in the assembly as this will be the acid test for them for fighting the cause of Jammuites. The SSH has however expressed its surprise over the criminal salience adopted by the elected Congress MLA's of Jammu region over the Central University issue. Akhil Bahartiya Vidyarathi Parishad while extending support to the CUJAC has decided to submit memorandum to all the ministers from the Jammu region and also to the heads of the administration. Talking to pressmen State secretary ABVP Suresh Magotra demanded immediate removal of Vice Chancellor Central University Abdul Wahid and appointment of new VC from Jammu region. He has also appealed the educationists, intellectuals, businessmen, students, civil society to join hands and unitedly fight for the cause of Jammuties. Similarly , Jammu Justice Movement ( JJM) President, Pushvinder Singh Manhas while addressing the media persons said that meeting organized by state govt and headed by the Deputy Cm Tarachand with the political leaders, and various organizations and citizens has no relevance with regards to the central university . . As without involving the the students who are the real state holders and beneficiaries no decision can be taken out . This act of the state govt is further adding to the dubious atmosphere already created by the anti Jammu statements of Ajay Sadhontra. In the meantime a protest march was taken out by BJYM led by its State President Pawan Khajuria against the State government’s move to shift Central University from Jammu to Srinagar. The protest culminated at Pt. Prem Nath Dogra Chowk where effigy of the coalition government was torched. The protesters raised slogans against the coalition government for giving step motherly treatment to Jammu region. Addressing the protestors Khajuria said that the NC-Congress government should realize that any discrimination with Jammu would not be tolerated. He said that when the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had publicly announced that the Central government would be established in Jammu and IIM in Kashmir an IIM there is no question of changing the locations of these prestigious institutions. Rejecting the Omar Abdullah assertion that he will persuade Central government to set up two Central Universities, one in Kashmir valley and other in Jammu region as a mere eye-wash, Pawan Khajuria asked the Chief Minister to establish two IIMs as well, one for Jammu and other for Kashmir. He cautioned the people about certain ‘Jaichands’ of Jammu who are valley-centric and confusing the people on this issue. Khajuria has also asked the Congress party to come out with its stand on the issue and warned the government of dire consequences if any move was made to shift the CU from Jammu. Meanwhile , pooh-pooing CM’s latest utterance regarding the demanding of two central universities , RS Pathania, an advocate has demanded that alike universities , two IIMs , with one at jammu should also be sought from the centre . He questioned the wisdom and rationale behind shifting of Central university campus from Jammu to Kashmir once it had been principally agreed that IIM shall be opened in valley and Central University in Jammu .He also criticized some ‘disgruntled elements and Jammu based stooges of the government who are attempting to debase the protesting students organizations.He also assured the full support to the students organizations. Youth Wing of Janta Dal United also warned the MLAs of Jammu region to raise the voice against the discrimination over the issue of Central university in assembly session otherwise threatened to launch series of protests against them stated President of Youth Wing of Janta Dal United jabar Singh Rissam and General secretary Amit Gandotra.
