| Virendra Singh accorded touching farewell | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JULY 27:A warm and touching farewell was accorded by the fraternity of Chartered Accountants of Jammu to Virendra Singh IRS, who after four years of his service as head of the J&K circle is demitting the office to join an elevated post of Director International Taxation at Delhi. A highly impressive farewell function was organized by the J&K Branch of NIRC of ICAI here today. Speaking on the occasion, CA Hardeep Aggarwal, Chairman of the J&K Branch of NIRC of ICAI was full of praise for the role envisaged by Singh for adopting humane and people- friendly approach for resolving issues relating to Income Tax matters. He appreciated him for setting up the grievances cell, quick disposal of refunds and receiving of DAK of other station of J&K at Jammu itself. He said that Singh has won the hearts of people by providing timely guidance to all those who come under the ambit of income tax that resulted into voluntary compliance. He added that the Chartered Accountants of Jammu will remember him for all times to come for his dedication, honesty, integrity and efficiency. The farewell was also addressed by CA Omesh Gupta, CA Vikram Garg, CA V K Kapur, CA Pardeep Gandotra, CA RK Gupta and CA Arun Kumar Gupta. The proceedings were conducted by CA Lalit Kumar Gupta, Secretary of the J&K Branch of NIRC of ICAI. Conveying his thanks to the Chartered Accountants of J&K, his team of officers in the circle as well as the tax payers in the state, Virendra Singh stated that while many officers in the department were reluctant to accept the assignment in J&K due to perception of insecurity, threat, non cooperation from the tax payers as well as attitude of hostility towards the officers in the Income Tax Department, he opted for serving in the J&K circle. He took the challenging job and today after four years and one month of his tenure in the J&K circle he is demitting his office with the fullest satisfaction that he has rendered justice to his job and discharged his duties and responsibilities to the best of his ability. He added that his thrust from the very beginning was to create an atmosphere of trust towards the department among the tax payers in general and the fraternity of chartered accountants in particular and with their cooperation streamlines the department and its functioning. He said that as a result of goodwill and healthy relations built between the tax payers and the officers in the department he succeeded in raising the tax collection in the state as well as bringing larger number of business under the income tax net. He added that even in the last year which witnessed business activity in the state at the lowest ebb due to over two month long agitation, shut downs and suspension of all the business activity both in Jammu and Kashmir the overall income tax realization registered 47% increase compared with the previous year. For this he gave due credit to the cooperation rendered to him by the chartered accountants and officers under him. Earlier, a seminar was held on the topic of “Amendments in the financial bill 2009-issues on TDS” for which CA Girish Ahuja, author of several books on income tax, was the guest speaker.
